Kidapawan City – A juvenile Philippine Serpent Eagle (Spilornis holospilus), weighing approximately 0.6 kilograms with body length of 20 inches, was successfully rescued on October 13, 2025 in Barangay Ilomavis, Kidapawan City after it accidentally crash-landed inside a local resident’s house. The incident was promptly reported to the Mount Apo Natural Park–Protected Area Management Office (MANP–PAMO) on the same day, enabling a quick response from authorities.

The PENRO Cotabato Wildlife Rescue Team immediately retrieved the raptor and brought it to the City Veterinary Office for medical assessment. Dr. Jessa Dell Remonde, DVM, conducted the examination and issued a medical certification stating that the bird was apparently healthy and fit for release, with no major injuries observed. After proper evaluation and clearance, the Philippine Serpent Eagle was released back into its natural habitat on October 14, 2025, in accordance with existing wildlife handling protocols. The DENR reminds the public that the Philippine Serpent Eagle is a protected raptor species under Republic Act No. 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, and encourages citizens to report any wildlife sightings or rescues to local DENR offices to support ongoing conservation efforts.
